AnswerWeb fails to launch with NT Authority error

Article last updated:

zSpace Customer Support has received several reports where customers are receiving an NT Authority Error when trying to access the AnswerWeb.  The symptom appears to occur after updating to the latest zSpace EDUserver and AnswerWeb release 2.9.0.

Below is a screenshot of the typical error you might receive:

"The current identity (NT AUTHORITY/NETWORK SERVICE) does not have write access to 'C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v.4.0.30319\Temporary ASP.NET Files'"

 NT Authority error

To resolve the issue, try the following steps:

Option 1:

  1. Right-click the Windows Start icon at the bottom left corner and select Programs and Features
  2. On the left side navigation window, select Turn Windows features on or off
  3. Select the + to expand the .NET Framework 3.5 option.
  4. Select both the Windows Communication Foundation HTTP Activation and Windows Communication Foundation Non-HTTP Activation
  5. Select OK and let it install new application files
  6. When complete, deselect the previous two options and click OK.
  7. Restart the system and wait about two minutes. Verify in Task Manager that EDUserver is running. If it shows stopped, right-click the service and start the service.  Verify EDUserver is running and then attempt to log into the AnswerWeb.

If Option 1 does not resolve the issue, try Option 2

Option 2:

  1. Right-click the Windows Start icon at the bottom left corner and select Programs and Features
  2. Locate the EDUserver program and select it.   Select Uninstall.
  3. Locate the IIS 8.0 Express program and select it.  Select Uninstall.
  4. Close the Program and Features window and reboot your zSpace system.
  5. Install the EDUserver software again.
  6. In Task Manager, verify the EDUserver is running.
  7. Launch AnswerWeb and verify it is now working.

After attempting these two solutions, the issue is still persistent, please contact zSpace Customer Support.
